ALBANY, NEW YORK – A Fort Edward man has been sentenced to 292 months in prison for sexually exploiting a child. James Mattison, 47, was sentenced to the lengthy prison term on [date unavailable] by Senior United States District Judge Gary L. Sharpe.

According to court documents, Mattison admitted to exchanging over 7,100 text messages with a 13-year-old boy in October 2016. Mattison, who claimed to be a teenage girl named Megan Mattison, coerced the victim into taking and sending sexually explicit photographs of himself by threatening to commit suicide if the victim refused.

The case was investigated by the FBI, with assistance from the New York State Police and Washington County Probation Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alicia G. Suarez prosecuted the case.

As part of his guilty plea, Mattison will also serve a life term of supervised release after his prison term. Upon his release, Mattison will be required to register as a sex offender.
