James Michael Garcia, Assault with Serious Bodily Injury, Montana 2018

A Brockton man has pleaded guilty to a violent crime that left another person with serious bodily injuries. James Michael Garcia, 29, admitted to assaulting a victim at his home on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation.

The crime occurred on August 26, 2018, after an argument over the phone with a relative of the victim. Garcia’s actions resulted in serious bodily injuries to the victim, identified as Jane Doe.

Garcia pleaded guilty to assault resulting in serious bodily injury in a federal court. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.

The case was investigated by the FBI and Fort Peck Tribal Law Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared C. Cobell is prosecuting the case.

Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the proceedings and set sentencing for February 9, 2022. Garcia was detained pending further proceedings.
