WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – A man from Tyler County has been charged with a slew of serious crimes related to firearms.
Jamie Villono, a 36-year-old resident of Sistersville, West Virginia, was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in illegal firearms possession and transport.
According to officials, Villono had previously been convicted of breaking and entering in Tyler County Circuit Court. He is now facing charges for allegedly possessing a 30-30 caliber rifle, a .22 caliber rifle, a .22-250 caliber rifle, and a .223 caliber rifle – all of which are believed to have been stolen.
It is alleged that Villono transported some of the stolen weapons across state lines from West Virginia to Ohio for sale. The crimes are believed to have taken place in October 2016 in Tyler County.
Villono faces up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for each count. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Perri is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, while the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
An indictment is merely an accusation, and Villono is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The case is a stark reminder of the importance of enforcing laws related to firearms and the serious consequences that come with violating them.
