A convicted felon from Dublin, Virginia, Michael Brandon Smith, has pleaded guilty to selling two stolen firearms in Pulaski County. The 40-year-old felon, prohibited from possessing firearms due to his previous record, sold the guns between January 27, 2025, and February 6, 2025. Smith understood the firearms were stolen and sought to get them away from his father’s property, where they were brought by an acquaintance who had stolen them from an unoccupied building.

Smith took possession of the stolen firearms, a Savage Arms .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle and a Hawthorne-Sentry .22 caliber long rifle, and sold them to another person. Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) recovered both stolen firearms.

Smith faces a maximum possible sentence of up to 10 years in prison. The case was investigated by the ATF and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charlene R. Day.

The guilty plea was announced by First Assistant United States Attorney Robert N. Tracci and ATF Assistant Special Agent in Charge Samuel Ward. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the illegal trafficking of firearms in Virginia.
