A North Carolina man’s life just got a whole lot longer – and darker – after he was sentenced to 12 years in the slammer for trafficking massive amounts of meth and fentanyl, as well as guns, in Virginia.
Donjuan Murphy, 23, of Hertford, was busted in June after a controlled purchase of 14.16 grams of meth and 1.18 grams of fentanyl in Virginia Beach. When cops showed up to serve state warrants on June 18, 2024, Murphy tried to make a break for it, backing his vehicle into a cop car and refusing to give up.
But eventually, Murphy complied and was taken into custody. What he tried to hide was a stash of 38.76 grams of fentanyl, 2.54 grams of meth, 80.55 grams of cocaine, 816.94 grams of marijuana, and four firearms – including one with an extended clip and another that had been reported stolen.
It turns out Murphy’s been down this road before, with multiple felony convictions in North Carolina for assault and firearm possession. Which made his possession of guns and ammo in Virginia a serious no-no.
