Jarrod Carter, Felon Firearm Possession, LA 2025

New Orleans, LA – A ruthless defendant named Jarrod Carter, 30, has been dealt a severe blow by the justice system. Carter was sentenced to 97 months behind bars after pleading guilty to two counts of being a felon in possession of firearms on June 26, 2025.

The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown, also mandates three years of supervised release for the offender following his prison term. Carter will pay a mandatory $200 special assessment fee as part of his punishment.

According to court records, Carter’s criminal activities were uncovered when the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) received reports of black males with firearms and drugs on Mandeville Street in January 2023. Further investigation by DEA Task Force and NOPD officers led to the seizure of a loaded Taurus .40 caliber handgun and a Springfield AR-15 style rifle from Carter.

Court documents show that Carter, already a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing firearms. The charges against him were part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in the area.

The Department of Justice’s aggressive stance on violent crime is evident in this case, which follows PSN’s core principles of fostering community trust and supporting organizations that prevent violence. The investigation was carried out by DEA and NOPD, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracey N. Knight leading the prosecution.
