Jason Jimenez, Conspiring to Defraud the IRS, New York 2017

Rochester, N.Y. – In a shocking turn of events, Jason Jimenez, 39, of Rochester, NY, pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud the Internal Revenue Service.

Jimenez, the owner of Fast Cash Tax, a tax return preparation business, conspired with other employees to prepare false tax returns on behalf of numerous clients. The returns were falsified to increase the amount of the Earned Income Tax Credit claimed, which yielded larger refunds for the clients than they were entitled to receive.

Between January 2012 and February 2015, the conspiracy netted approximately $105,000 in fraudulently obtained refunds. Jimenez faces a maximum penalty of 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Field, who is handling the case, stated that Jimenez’s actions were a blatant disregard for the law and a betrayal of the trust placed in him by his clients.

The plea is the result of an investigation by Special Agents with the Internal Revenue Service, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge James D. Robnett.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 4, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., before U.S. District Judge Elizabeth A. Wolford.
