Jason Monroe Epstein, 29, of Orlando, Florida, faces up to 15 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to a bribery charge.

Epstein was a Corrections Officer at the Coleman Federal Correctional Complex in Sumter County, where he allegedly smuggled marijuana and tobacco products into the prison in exchange for wire transfers.

According to the plea agreement, Epstein admitted to smuggling marijuana and tobacco into the prison over a two-year period, from April 2012 to April 2014.

Epstein also admitted to receiving "hundreds of dollars" in illegal payments for his actions.

The investigation, led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Office of the Inspector General, revealed that inmates had arranged for third parties to send Epstein numerous wire transfers under false names.

Epstein’s guilty plea was announced by United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III, who noted that the case highlights the importance of accountability in law enforcement.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Robert E. Bodnar, Jr.

Epstein is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date, but has already pleaded guilty to the bribery charge.

The guilty plea marks a significant blow to the integrity of the corrections system and serves as a reminder of the consequences of corruption within law enforcement ranks.
