JACKSONVILLE, FL – Andre Lee Long, 48, of Jacksonville, is headed to federal prison for a decade after pleading guilty to flooding the streets with poison. U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan handed down the 10-year sentence today for the distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl and 50 grams or more of actual methamphetamine. The sentence sends a clear message: move this garbage, and you *will* pay the price.
The bust began with a focused investigation by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) into Long’s fentanyl operation. Court documents reveal a pattern of brazen dealing. Over three separate transactions – June 14, June 21, and July 18, 2023 – Long personally delivered over 220 grams of the deadly opioid fentanyl to a confidential informant. Surveillance teams documented Long leaving his residence each time, conducting the deals in plain sight in various parking lots.
But fentanyl wasn’t all Long was peddling. On August 1, 2023, law enforcement raided Long’s Jacksonville home, and the haul was significant. Inside, they found over 360 grams of methamphetamine, an additional 44 grams of fentanyl, and smaller amounts of crack cocaine. The operation wasn’t just about the drugs; it was a full-scale criminal enterprise.
Authorities didn’t stop at the narcotics. The search also turned up a rifle, ammunition, drug scales, countless baggies used for packaging, and a shocking amount of cash – over $113,074. All of it, the court determined, was directly traceable to Long’s illegal drug sales. The money and the rifle have been ordered forfeited to the government.
Assistant United States Attorney Kirwinn Mike successfully prosecuted the case, building a rock-solid case based on surveillance, informant testimony, and the evidence seized during the raid. The collaborative effort between HSI, CCSO, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations proved crucial in bringing Long to justice. This wasn’t a small-time operation; Long was a significant player in the Jacksonville drug trade.
Long’s 10-year sentence serves as a stark reminder that federal law enforcement is actively targeting those responsible for the opioid crisis and the spread of dangerous drugs like methamphetamine. While one dealer is off the streets, the fight continues. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking organizations in Florida and beyond.
