Iowa City Man Sentenced to 14 Years in Federal Prison for Receipt of Child Pornography
A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Iowa City, Iowa. Jeffrey Alan Guentert, a 57-year-old city employee, was sentenced to 168 months in federal prison for Receipt of Child Pornography.
According to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, Guentert downloaded files containing child sexual abuse material in 2023. Law enforcement seized 87 electronic devices during a search of his Iowa City residence and place of employment.
A forensic examination of the seized electronic devices revealed that Guentert used at least 44 of the devices to receive, view, and possess images and videos containing child sexual abuse material, including more than 5,000 images and 1,500 videos, between 2019 and 2023.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement. This case was investigated by the Johnson County Joint Forensic Analysis Cyber Team and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.
Guentert will be required to serve a five-year term of supervised release after completing his term of imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system. He was also ordered to pay $100,000 in restitution.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006. Guentert’s sentencing serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child exploitation crimes and the importance of continued vigilance in protecting our children.
The Johnson County Joint Forensic Analysis Cyber Team and the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office are to be commended for their tireless efforts in investigating and bringing perpetrators of child exploitation crimes to justice.
