A 45-year-old Arkansas man was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender in South Dakota.
Jeffrey Alan Mosal, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, was convicted of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and was sentenced on February 28, 2022, by U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier.
Mosal was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 6, 2021, and pleaded guilty on November 30, 2021.
The conviction stems from Mosal failing to register as a sex offender as required by federal law between January 30, 2020, and April 6, 2021.
Mosal had previously been convicted of a sex offense in U.S. Circuit Court, District of Arkansas, which required him to register for 25 years.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Sioux Falls Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey C. Clapper prosecuted the case, and Mosal was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
As part of his sentence, Mosal will also serve five years of supervised release and pay a special assessment of $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
