Sutton Man Sentenced to Prison for Bank Fraud and Mortgage Scam
A Sutton, Massachusetts man has been sentenced to prison for his role in a mortgage fraud scheme, where he supplied false information and documents to Bank of America to secure a government-guaranteed mortgage loan.
Jeffrey Dodge, 53, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Michael A. Ponsor to one day in prison, followed by two years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $135,494 restitution to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Between June 2006 and November 2006, Dodge supplied false information and false documents to Bank of America when applying for a government-guaranteed mortgage loan. He falsely stated that he had not been foreclosed upon when, in fact, he had just months earlier been foreclosed upon after defaulting on another government mortgage loan.
Dodge pleaded guilty to bank fraud and false statement on a loan application in February 2013. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Alex J. Grant and Michelle L. Dineen Jerrett.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz and Cary A. Rubenstein, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Inspector General, New York Regional Office, made the announcement today.
The sentence brings an end to a lengthy investigation into Dodge’s activities, which were discovered to be part of a larger scheme to defraud banks and the government through the use of false loan applications.
