Jefferson Parish Woman Sentenced for $350,000 Wire Fraud and Identity Theft Scheme
A 37-year-old Jefferson Parish woman has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for her role in a wire fraud and identity theft scheme that totalled over $350,000.
Jelissa Lacour was sentenced by United States District Judge Carl J. Barbier on April 9, 2026, after being found guilty of two counts of wire fraud and two counts of aggravated identity theft.
The scheme, which was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, saw Lacour obtain numerous Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans using falsified tax forms, as well as fraudulently obtaining Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) funds in the names of numerous purported renters.
Lacour also misused others’ identities to obtain payments in their names, resulting in a combined total loss of approximately $366,236.
Assistant United States Attorney Chandra Menon of the Public Integrity Unit prosecuted the case, which resulted in Lacour being sentenced to 46 months imprisonment on the wire fraud counts and 24 consecutive months imprisonment on the aggravated identity theft counts.
The court also ordered Lacour to serve three years of supervised release following her imprisonment and to pay $342,032 in restitution.
Lacour’s sentencing brings an end to a scheme that saw her take advantage of various government programs designed to support individuals and businesses affected by the pandemic.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting taxpayer dollars and preventing fraud in government programs.
According to a statement released by the U.S. Attorney’s office, the National Fraud Enforcement Division was created on April 7, 2026, to investigate and prosecute those who steal or fraudulently misuse taxpayer dollars.
