Tyler Chinana, Child Sex Abuse, New Mexico 2023

ALBUQUERQUE – A stark reminder of the consequences for predators: Tyler Chinana, a 35-year-old Jemez Pueblo member, has been locked away for 63 months after being found guilty of sexually abusing two underage minors. The sentence, handed down by the federal court, comes with no parole in the federal system.

Chinana’s predatory behavior was exposed when he engaged in unlawful sexual contact with a victim under 12 back in 2012. In another harrowing incident just last year, Chinana targeted yet another minor, also aged under 12. The court documents paint a chilling picture of repeated abuse by the defendant.

The gravity of his crimes led to Chinana’s guilty plea on two counts of abusive sexual contact. Upon completing his sentence, he will be placed under ten years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender for life, ensuring he remains accountable to society.

Today’s sentencing was made possible by the relentless efforts of U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Acting Special Agent in Charge Philip Russell from the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office. They announced the sentence, emphasizing the commitment to protecting our youth from such monsters.

The case was thoroughly investigated with the assistance of the Jemez Pueblo Police Department, while Assistant U.S. Attorneys Meg Tomlinson prosecuted it with unwavering dedication. The community can take solace in knowing that justice has been served for the innocent victims who suffered at the hands of this predator.

Chinana’s sentencing serves as a stark warning to those who would prey on the most vulnerable among us. The federal justice system will not tolerate such heinous crimes, and predators like Chinana face the full weight of the law.
