Former Post Office Manager Lands 4 Years Probation for Stealing $5,729.65 from Mail

PITTSBURGH – In a shocking case of postal corruption, Jennifer M. Soltis, a former U.S. Post Office employee, has been sentenced to four years probation and ordered to pay restitution of $5,729.65 for misusing funds and stealing mail.

Soltis, who served as the Acting Officer in Charge at the Smock, Pa., post office, was convicted of misappropriation of postal funds and theft of mail by a postal employee. Senior United States District Court Judge Donetta W. Ambrose handed down the sentence.

According to court records, Soltis converted postal money orders, stamps, and cash worth $5,729.65 to her own use between October 8, 2012, and January 9, 2013. The investigation also revealed that on December 9, 2012, Soltis embezzled a Wal-Mart gift card from an item of mail.

Assistant United States Attorney Mary McKeen Houghton prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton commended the United States Postal Service, Office of Inspector General, for their diligent investigation that led to Soltis’ conviction.
