South Dakota Man Given 2-Year Probation for Assault
A St. Francis man was sentenced to 2 years of probation after pleading guilty to simple assault charges. Jeremy Iron, 29, was sentenced by U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on June 27, 2014.
Iron was also ordered to pay $10 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund as part of his sentence. The conviction stems from an incident that took place on February 16, 2014, when Iron returned home to the residence he shared with the victim and her children.
There was an argument, and Iron knocked the phone out of the victim’s hand, then assaulted her. The investigation was conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher. Iron was released from custody after serving his sentence. The incident highlights the importance of prioritizing domestic violence cases and providing support to victims.
Simple assault is a serious crime that can have lasting effects on its victims. The community must come together to support those affected by such incidents and work towards preventing them from happening in the first place.
The sentencing of Jeremy Iron serves as a reminder of the consequences of committing such crimes. It is our hope that this case will serve as a deterrent to others who may be considering similar actions.
