Rochester man pleads guilty to possessing a firearm while selling drugs, faces up to 20 years in prison and $1 million fine.
Jesus Velez, 21, of Rochester, New York, pleaded guilty to felony charges of Possession With Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Possession of a Firearm During and in Relation to a Drug Trafficking Crime.
The charges stem from an incident on July 11, 2014, in which members of the Rochester Police Department observed Velez carrying a loaded firearm while possessing cocaine he intended to sell.
The plea was the culmination of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Rochester Police Department.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer M. Noto handled the case.
Crime date: July 11, 2014.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 5, 2015, at 9:15 A.M. EST, in front of Judge Charles J. Siragusa.
The drug charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000 or both.
The firearm charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both.
Velez faces a total of up to 30 years in prison and $1,250,000 in fines.
