Jgenus Steele, a 23-year-old man from New Castle, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to 63 months in prison for his role in a fentanyl, heroin, and crack cocaine trafficking ring, as well as firearm crimes.
According to Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti, Steele was sentenced by United States District Judge Robert J. Colville. Judge Colville also ordered Steele to serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.
The investigation into Steele’s activities began in 2019 and 2020 as part of a Lawrence County Drug Task Force operation. At the time, Steele was on parole as a result of a prior conviction for aggravated assault.
During the investigation, the Task Force conducted a controlled purchase of 12.44 grams of crack directly from Steele in December 2019 in New Castle. A search warrant was then served at Steele’s apartment in February 2020, where authorities found a mixture containing 2.68 grams of fentanyl and heroin, as well as five loaded pistols and $1,255.00 in drug trafficking proceeds.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States. The Lawrence County Drug Task Force and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation in this case.
This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The PSN program brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
Steele’s sentence is a result of his involvement in the fentanyl, heroin, and crack cocaine trafficking ring, as well as his possession of firearms. His case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences that come with engaging in such activities.
The sentencing of Jgenus Steele is a significant blow to those involved in the fentanyl, heroin, and crack cocaine trade. It is a testament to the hard work and dedication of law enforcement agencies and the importance of community-based programs in reducing violent crime and gun violence.
