Thibodaux Woman Sentenced for Wire Fraud and Theft of Government Check
In a shocking case of exploitation, Jill András Leblanc, a 41-year-old resident of Thibodaux, Louisiana, has pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of theft of government funds.
According to court documents, Leblanc was appointed power of attorney for her terminally ill mother in 2008. Her mother’s retirement account, managed by a national brokerage house in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was drained of approximately $369,701 between Leblanc’s administration of the account.
The funds were used for personal and frivolous items, leaving Leblanc’s mother with a substantial financial loss. Furthermore, Leblanc stole a Social Security disability check worth $13,500 intended for her disabled sister.
Leblanc faces a possible maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment on the wire fraud count, in addition to a fine of $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release. On the theft of government property, Leblanc faces 10 years imprisonment.
U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt set sentencing for April 11, 2018. Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation, and the Louisiana State Inspector General in investigating the matter.
Assistant United States Attorney Carter K. D. Guice, Jr. of the Fraud Unit is in charge of the prosecution. Leblanc will be ordered to pay restitution to her mother and sister.
Jill András Leblanc, whose aliases include Jill Fremin, was charged by a Superseding Bill of Information on December 19, 2017. The full extent of Leblanc’s crimes is still unknown, but one thing is certain: she has brought shame to her family and community.
As the investigation continues, one can only wonder how Leblanc managed to deceive those closest to her. The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of exploitation and the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals.
Leblanc’s case will be a topic of discussion for years to come, and it serves as a warning to those who would seek to exploit the vulnerable for personal gain.
