A brutal assault on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) left a military spouse battered, raped, and struggling for her life. The alleged perpetrator, JIMMY ANTHONY INDARTE, 28, of North Carolina, has been sentenced to four years in prison and eight years of supervised release for his heinous crimes.
The assault occurred in August 2017, when INDARTE choked his estranged wife into unconsciousness after discovering videos of himself raping her on his phone. When she regained consciousness, he chased her with a butcher knife, leaving their three-year-old son in the midst of the chaos. Military police intervened, rescuing the victim from the clutches of her tormentor.
According to court records, INDARTE and his spouse were in the process of divorcing due to his previous actions, including the torture and intentional killing of their four adopted puppies. INDARTE had initially lied about the cause of the dogs’ deaths, but his spouse discovered the truth after finding disturbing videos on his phone.
The case took a darker turn when INDARTE repeatedly tried to contact his former spouse in violation of a no-contact order, using falsified emails to make it seem like she was fabricating information provided to the FBI. He even resorted to threats to try to silence her cooperation with law enforcement.
The case was handled in federal court due to the fact that the assault occurred on JBLM. INDARTE was arrested in December 2017 at his father’s residence in High Point, North Carolina, and has been detained since his arrest. He pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact in March 2019.
The FBI and the Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID) investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Grady Leupold. U.S. District Judge Benjamin H. Settle described the crime as ‘one of the most serious crimes that a person can commit.’
The sentencing of JIMMY ANTHONY INDARTE serves as a stark reminder of the severity of domestic violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. As the nation grapples with the scourge of violence against women, this case serves as a grim reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked aggression and the need for vigilant prosecution of such heinous crimes.
