Jodi Lathrop, 55, of Bristol, Sentenced to 15 Months in Prison for Wire Fraud and Tax Evasion

Burlington, Vermont – In a case brought to light by the Vermont office of IRS-Criminal Investigation and by Homeland Security Investigations, Jodi Lathrop, 55, of Bristol, has been sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment for her role in a scheme to embezzle from her former employer, Claire Lathrop Band Mill, Inc.

On September 10, 2024, Lathrop will surrender to the Bureau of Prisons to begin serving her sentence. In addition to her prison term, Lathrop has also been ordered to pay $479,000 in restitution, a fine of $15,000, and serve a two-year period of supervised release following completion of her prison term.

According to court documents, Lathrop, who served as office manager and bookkeeper for Claire Lathrop Band Mill, Inc., from 2014 to 2020, engaged in a scheme to embezzle from the business by using company credit cards to make personal purchases, using company funds to pay the personal credit card obligations of Lathrop and other family members, and using company money to pay for other personal expenses.

Lathrop concealed the embezzlement in several ways, including falsifying company records and causing the company to file false tax returns. In pleading guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of tax evasion, Lathrop admitted to her role in the scheme.
