A Moorhead man has been handed a harsh sentence for his role in distributing child pornography.
Joey David Gonzales, 36, was sentenced to 120 months in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release for distributing material depicting the sexual abuse of children.
This comes after Gonzales pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography on August 24, 2021.
According to court documents, Gonzales used email and other online media to advertise, solicit, and trade images and videos depicting the sexual exploitation of children between February 2016 and August 2020.
U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson handed down the sentence.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah E. Hudleston prosecuted the case.
