A 41-year-old Great Falls man has been sentenced to six years in prison for receiving child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Leif M. Johnson.
John Douglas Woodcock pleaded guilty in September 2021 to receipt of child pornography. Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the case.
The government alleged that Woodcock knowingly received child pornography from April 2019 to December 2019. An investigation led to Woodcock as the subscriber of the internet provider address associated with a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Officers searched Woodcock’s residence and seized his cell phone, which contained over 1,000 child pornography images and video files.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Cyndee L. Peterson prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Montana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Great Falls Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and Montana Division of Criminal Investigation.
The case was initiated under the DOJ’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, which was launched in 2006 to combat the proliferation of technology-facilitated crimes involving the sexual exploitation of children.
Woodcock was ordered to pay $36,000 in restitution to victims as part of his sentence. He will also serve 10 years of supervised release after completing his prison term.
