Defendant Sentenced for Heinous Crime Against Children
A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Rhode Island, where a 36-year-old man from Foster has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for downloading and storing child sexual abuse material.
According to court documents, John Q. Adams pleaded guilty to receipt of child sexual abuse material and was sentenced by U.S District Court Judge Mary S. McElroy. Adams will also be required to register as a sex offender in accordance with the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
The investigation, led by Homeland Security Investigations and the Rhode Island State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, uncovered a staggering amount of evidence against Adams. On January 13, 2021, Adams downloaded and stored an explicit video file depicting child sexual abuse material involving two adult males and a prepubescent female.
Further investigation revealed that Adams had downloaded and stored approximately 112 images and 49 videos of child sexual abuse material. This heinous act is a clear indication of Adams’ disregard for the safety and well-being of children.
Adams’ history of similar crimes only adds to the severity of his sentence. At the time of the offense, Adams had previously been convicted and incarcerated for sharing sexually explicit photographs online with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl whom he also attempted to meet near her middle school to engage in sex.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Denise M. Barton, who has a proven track record of successfully prosecuting individuals guilty of sex crimes. The efforts of the prosecution and law enforcement agencies in this case are a testament to their commitment to protecting children from exploitation.
