SCRANTON – In a disturbing display of violence behind bars, Johnny Biggs, a 38-year-old inmate, was sentenced to 57 months in prison for assault with a dangerous weapon.

The attack occurred on August 26, 2016, when Biggs used a padlock tied to a sock as a weapon, leaving the victim with multiple lacerations to his head, face, and back. The motive behind the assault was a dispute between rival sects of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gangs.

Biggs was already serving a 36-month sentence for a violation of supervised release and drug trafficking. The latest sentence will run consecutive to his current term.

According to United States Attorney Bruce Brandler, ‘the assault was a serious offense that caused significant harm to the victim.’ The investigation was conducted by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and officers at USP Canaan. Assistant United States Attorney Sean A. Camoni is prosecuting the case.
