Attempted Arson Lands Muskogee Man in Prison for Life
Johnny Lee Vann, a 48-year-old Muskogee resident, has been found guilty of attempting to set fire to a dwelling in Indian Country, putting the lives of others at risk, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The crime occurred on January 4, 2025, in Muskogee County, within the boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Reservation in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The charge of Attempted Arson in Indian Country comes with a maximum penalty of up to life in prison and a $250,000.00 fine.
The investigation into the attempted arson was conducted by the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kevin Gross and Dak T. Cohen represented the United States in this case.
Vann’s guilty plea was accepted by the Honorable Jason A. Robertson, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report must now be completed before a U.S. District Court Judge determines the final sentence.
Vann remains in the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending sentencing. The final decision on his sentence will be made after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
