New Haven, CT – In a major blow to the city’s narcotics trade, Johnny Serrano, 24, was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for distributing narcotics in New Haven.

According to court documents, on November 16, 2011, Serrano was arrested in connection with a large-scale narcotics operation in the Fair Haven section of New Haven.

As revealed in the investigation, Serrano and others operated an open-air narcotics market where they sold crack cocaine, cocaine, and heroin to customers on a daily basis.

The investigation, led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the New Haven Police Department’s Tactical Narcotics Unit, used court-authorized wiretaps, law enforcement surveillance, and controlled purchases of crack cocaine and cocaine.

Serrano pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base (‘crack’) and a quantity of cocaine on October 1, 2012.

With his guilty plea, Serrano was sentenced to 70 months of imprisonment, followed by four years of supervised release, by United States District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford.
