Joint Federal & State Press Conference Targets Gang Activity in Savannah, GA
In a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle against violent crime in the city, federal and state law enforcement officials will hold a joint press conference today to discuss the results of their efforts to target gang activity in the Cann Park neighborhood of Savannah, Georgia.
According to sources, the joint operation, which involved the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the ATF, the Chatham County Narcotics Team, and the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, has resulted in a significant reduction in violent crime in the area.
‘We are committed to making our communities safer, and we will do everything in our power to disrupt and dismantle the gangs that are responsible for so much of the violence in our city,’ said Acting U.S. Attorney Jim Durham.
During the press conference, which will take place at 1:30 p.m. at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Durham will be joined by District Attorney Meg Heap and SCMPD Chief Joseph Lumpkin, who will provide brief remarks and answer questions from the media.
The Cann Park neighborhood has been plagued by gang activity for years, with violent crime rates significantly higher than the rest of the city.
The joint operation has resulted in the arrest and prosecution of numerous individuals involved in gang activity, and officials say that they are confident that the efforts will continue to pay off in the coming months.
