A disturbing incident unfolded in Manderson, South Dakota, when Jon Cole Clifford, a 35-year-old man, allegedly stabbed his brother during an argument in July 2019.
Clifford was subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury in December 2019. He pleaded guilty to the charge on April 30, 2021.
The conviction stems from an altercation that took place in July 2019, near Manderson. Clifford’s actions led to the indictment and eventual sentencing.
On July 28, 2021, Judge Karen E. Schreier, U.S. District Court, handed down a 16-month prison sentence to Clifford. He was also given credit for time served and ordered to complete 3 years of supervised release.
In addition to the prison term, Clifford was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Sazama prosecuted the case.
