A West Virginia man has been indicted on multiple child pornography charges, announced United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II.
Jon Travis Yost, 27, of Philippi, West Virginia, is accused of producing, possessing, and transporting child pornography between September 2019 and May 2020 in Barbour County.
Yost was indicted on four counts: Transportation of Child Pornography – Previous conviction, Possession of Child Pornography – Previous Conviction, Production of Child Pornography – Previous conviction, and Attempted Production of Child Pornography – Previous conviction.
According to the indictment, Yost, who was previously convicted of 3rd Degree Sexual Assault in Barbour County, faces severe penalties. He could be sentenced to at least 15 and up to 40 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 for the transportation charge. Additionally, he could face up to 10 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 for the possession charge. Furthermore, he could be sentenced to at least 25 years and up to 50 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000 for each of the production and attempted production charges.
Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Perri is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The FBI and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office investigated.
It is essential to note that an indictment is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
Yost’s case serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child pornography crimes and the importance of protecting our children. We will continue to work tirelessly to bring those who commit these heinous acts to justice.
