Rapid City man, Jonathan Bagola, was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in federal prison for Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person in Rapid City, South Dakota.
On January 25, 2026, Bagola was discovered to be in possession of a pistol with an obliterated serial number while police officers conducted a traffic stop in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Bagola was previously convicted of a crime punishable beyond a year in prison and, as a result, is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the federal government to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.
The case was investigated by the ATF and the Rapid City Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Schroeder prosecuted the case.
Bagola was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service after being sentenced on January 26, 2026.
He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund as part of his sentence.
Bagola’s sentence includes three years of supervised release after serving his prison time.
