Gun Trafficking Ring Busted in West Virginia

BECKLEY, W.Va. – In a major blow to gun violence, a notorious gun trafficking ring was dismantled in Beckley, West Virginia, after a lengthy investigation by local and federal authorities. United States Attorney Will Thompson announced the successful conclusion of the case, United States v. Jones et al (5:22-cr-46), which targeted the illegal trafficking of over 140 firearms from the Beckley area to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The case, which involved multiple defendants, resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of firearms, including handguns, rifles, and shotguns. The guns were smuggled across state lines and eventually made their way to the streets of Philadelphia, where they were used in various crimes, including shootings and robberies.

Thompson was joined by officials from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI), and other law enforcement partners to announce the final outcome of the case. The press conference was held at the Robert C. Byrd United States Courthouse and Federal Building in Beckley, where the final sentencing hearings took place.
