PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A former Bronx resident has landed in hot water for his role in a cocaine trafficking scheme.
Jose Baez Cabrera, 35, has been sentenced in federal court to 46 months in prison on his conviction of possessing with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine, United States Attorney Troy Rivetti announced today.
Chief United States District Judge Cathy Bissoon imposed the sentence on Cabrera, also ordering him to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term in the event he is not removed from the United States based on his immigration status.
According to information presented to the Court, on August 16, 2023, Cabrera was caught transporting eight kilograms of cocaine across Pennsylvania with the intent to deliver them to drug dealers in Erie.
He was on probation at that time following a 2021 felony conviction in New York for possessing a kilogram of fentanyl.
Assistant United States Attorney Craig W. Haller prosecuted this case on behalf of the United States.
United States Attorney Rivetti commended the Pennsylvania State Police and Drug Enforcement Administration for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Cabrera.

This is not Cabrera’s first run-in with the law. He was previously convicted of possessing a kilogram of fentanyl in 2021 in New York.
