Amarillo, Texas resident Jose Carlos Terra Izquierdo has been sentenced to 24 months in federal prison for credit card fraud in the District of Florida.
Izquierdo, 24, was convicted of credit card fraud in the District of Nebraska in 2016. However, instead of turning himself in to begin his 12 month and 1 day prison sentence, he traveled to Florida in violation of his conditions of release.
On March 2, 2017, Izquierdo was pulled over by the Florida Highway Patrol in Columbia County for an expired Texas tag. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, troopers located a credit card reader and stolen credit card information belonging to more than 50 victims.
The case was investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol and the United States Secret Service – Jacksonville Field Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kevin C. Frein.
Izquierdo was sentenced to serve his 24-month prison sentence consecutive to his 12 month and 1 day prison sentence in the District of Nebraska. He was also ordered to pay restitution to the companies that he defrauded.
The U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Corrigan handed down the sentence in Jacksonville, Florida.
Izquierdo’s crimes are a stark reminder of the prevalence of credit card fraud in our society. His case should serve as a warning to those who would seek to exploit the trust placed in them by financial institutions.
