Grimy Times has learned that a Honduran national has been sentenced for illegally reentering the United States in Louisiana. According to court documents, 25-year-old JOSE EDGARDO CANALES-MADRID was found in the United States on December 1, 2014, after having been officially deported and removed on or about October 6, 2011.

On [December 1, 2023], U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite announced that JOSE EDGARDO CANALES-MADRID had previously pleaded guilty to a one-count Bill of Information for illegal reentry of a removed alien. The crime is punishable under Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326.

As a result of his plea, CANALES-MADRID was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Carl J. Barbier to times served, approximately three months imprisonment, and a $100 special assessment. CANALES-MADRID will be surrendered to the custody of the U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement for removal proceedings.
