Granite City, Illinois – In a shocking display of disregard for the law, Jose Galvan-Lopez, a 44-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for the offense of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by an Illegal Alien.
According to court documents, Galvan-Lopez was arrested on May 8, 2015, in Granite City, Illinois, after an investigation by the Granite City Police Department and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agency revealed that he was an illegal alien who had previously been deported from the United States to Mexico.
During his change of plea hearing in August 2015, Galvan-Lopez admitted to purchasing a stolen 9mm assault rifle and ammunition for $50.00 in cash in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2013.
