Five-Time Deported Mexican National Arrested in New Braunfels
A high-stakes arrest was made in the Texas Hill Country when authorities apprehended Jose Guadalupe Deciga-Lopez, a Mexican national accused of re-entering the United States after being deported five times.
According to court documents, Deciga-Lopez was pulled over during a vehicle stop in New Braunfels on March 3 and subsequently taken into custody.
Immigration records reveal that Deciga-Lopez had been deported from the US to Mexico on no less than five separate occasions: once in 2014, twice in 2017, again in 2018, and most recently in 2023.
If convicted of the charges leveled against him, Deciga-Lopez faces the very real possibility of up to 10 years in federal prison and a maximum $250,000 fine. However, any sentence would ultimately be determined by a federal district court judge after considering the guidelines and other factors.
The case against Deciga-Lopez is being investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), with Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Anne Marie Cordova at the helm of the prosecution.
It’s worth noting that a criminal complaint is merely an allegation, and as such, Deciga-Lopez is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
