Jose Martinez-Romero, a 32-year-old Honduran national, is facing serious consequences for his brazen disregard of U.S. immigration laws.
Yesterday, Martinez-Romero pled guilty to a one-count Indictment for illegal entry of a removed alien, a crime that carries a maximum term of imprisonment of two years and a fine of $250,000.
According to court documents, Martinez-Romero was previously removed from the United States on April 16, 2007. However, he was later found in the Eastern District of Louisiana on March 2, 2015, without permission from the Attorney General of the United States or the Secretary of Homeland Security to reenter.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in investigating this matter.
Assistant United States Attorney Jon Maestri is in charge of the prosecution.
United States District Court Judge Carl J. Barbier set sentencing for June 11, 2015.
Martinez-Romero’s actions are a stark reminder of the importance of respecting U.S. immigration laws and the consequences of breaking them.
The Grimy Times will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
