KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A Mexican national has been convicted and sentenced for illegally reentering the United States, a dangerous tactic often employed by violent criminals seeking to evade justice.
José Raul Falcon-Reyes, 36, had previously been deported to Mexico in 2015 after being convicted of improper entry by an alien. However, he managed to slip back into the country just one month later.
Falcon-Reyes was arrested on February 15, 2025, in Pettis County, Mo., after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents tracked him down. His brazen attempt to reenter the country was seen as a serious threat to public safety.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Rudolph R. Rhodes IV led the prosecution in this case, with Immigration & Customs Enforcement and Enforcement & Removal Operations conducting the investigation.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at stopping the flow of illegal immigrants and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations.
The defendants’ actions put innocent lives at risk and divert law enforcement resources away from more pressing concerns. His 12-month sentence is a stern warning to those who would attempt to disregard our borders.
Judge Brian C. Wimes handed down the sentence, underscoring the gravity of Falcon-Reyes’ actions. The consequences of such crimes will only continue to escalate as law enforcement cracks down on those who seek to evade justice.
The community can rest a little easier knowing that Falcon-Reyes will be behind bars for the next year, but it’s a reminder that the threat of violent crime and illegal immigration remains a very real concern.
