Joseph Furey Lusk, Attempting to Sexually Entice Minor, Florida 2021

A 47-year-old Orlando man has been handed down a 29-year prison sentence for attempting to sexually entice a minor in South Florida.

Miami, Florida – U.S. District Judge Aileen M. Cannon imposed the sentence on Joseph Furey Lusk, a registered sex offender from Orlando, in a federal court in Fort Pierce, Florida. Lusk was found guilty of attempting to sexually entice a minor and committing an offense involving a minor while required to register as a sex offender.

According to the investigation, in August 2021, Lusk engaged in sexually explicit chats with someone in Martin County, Florida, whom he believed to be 15 years old. During the chats, Lusk encouraged the minor to send him nude images and videos of herself and friends engaged in sexual activity. He also sent several photographs of his erect penis through text messages.

Lusk’s attempt to entice occurred less than one month after his release from state custody on a 2018 Florida state conviction for traveling to meet a minor, a conviction that required him to register as a sex offender.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Miami, with assistance from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stacey Bergstrom prosecuted the case, with the support of U.S. Attorney Juan Antonio Gonzalez for the Southern District of Florida and Anthony Salisbury, Special Agent in Charge of HSI Miami.

Lusk was sentenced to 355 months in prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting children from predators and the consequences of engaging in such heinous crimes.
