Coeur d’Alene, Idaho – A brazen burglary at the Stubby Lake Smoke Shop on the Coeur d’Alene Reservation has resulted in a lengthy prison sentence for the perpetrator, 36-year-old Joseph Reno Stensgar.
According to court documents, Stensgar, a tribal member from Plummer, Idaho, entered the smoke shop on January 3, 2014, with the intention of stealing cartons of cigarettes. However, the burglary quickly escalated into a full-blown heist, with Stensgar and an accomplice making off with cigarettes, cash, and a laptop computer from the store. Additionally, they stole the store clerk’s car keys and a 2012 Subaru Forrester.
The crime was investigated by the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). After a lengthy investigation, Stensgar was indicted by a federal grand jury in Coeur d’Alene on May 20, 2014.
