Joseph White, Tax Evasion, Pennsylvania 2024

Joseph White, 48, of Newtown, Pennsylvania, is headed to federal prison for two years after admitting to a years-long scheme to dodge more than $1.2 million in taxes through his electrical contracting firms. U.S. District Court Judge Gerald A. McHugh handed down the sentence today, ordering White to also pay full restitution and attend Gamblers Anonymous upon release.

White, owner of PCE Electric Corporation and Thomas Edison Electric Corporation in Southampton, Pennsylvania, used corporate funds for personal spending from 2000 through 2011 without reporting the diverted income. The funds were siphoned off the books, allowing White to live beyond the reach of federal tax collectors while his companies operated in plain sight.

According to the Criminal Information filed by Acting United States Attorney Louis D. Lappen, White didn’t just hide income—he built a shell around it. He registered multiple luxury vehicles under HAPPE, a Nevada-registered partnership he created solely to disguise ownership and further distance himself from the assets purchased with stolen corporate revenue.

The IRS Criminal Investigation Division in Philadelphia cracked the case after tracing unreported expenditures and mismatched corporate returns. Investigators found a consistent pattern of cash diversion, falsified records, and deliberate underreporting—hallmarks of a calculated effort to defraud the federal government.

“This sentence should send a clear message; schemes to evade the payment of taxes are a violation of the Federal Tax laws and the consequences of such schemes can and will result in jail time,” said Gregory Floyd, Acting Special Agent in Charge of IRS-CI’s Philadelphia Field Office.

The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Floyd J. Miller. White will serve two years behind bars, followed by supervised release with mandatory Gamblers Anonymous attendance—a detail Judge McHugh deemed necessary given behavioral patterns uncovered during the investigation.
