A scourge on our community has been brought to light as Joshua H. Ruschel, a 41-year-old man from Valley Grove, West Virginia, was indicted on a child pornography charge.
According to Acting United States Attorney Randolph J. Bernard, Ruschel was accused of possessing child pornography depicting children under the age of 12 in June 2020 in Ohio County. This heinous crime has left many in our community shaken and outraged.
The indictment alleges that Ruschel committed the crime of ‘Possession of Child Pornography.’ If convicted, he faces up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence imposed will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history Ruschel may have.
Ruschel’s case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Danae DeMasi-Lemon. The West Virginia State Police conducted the investigation.
An indictment is merely an accusation, and Ruschel is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. The people of West Virginia demand justice for the victims of this heinous crime.
Ruschel’s fate will be decided in the courts, but one thing is certain: those who prey on our children will be brought to justice.
