A Logan man has found himself in hot water after pleading guilty to a federal firearms charge, announced United States Attorney Mike Stuart.
Joshua Stephen Nida, 35, pled guilty to being in possession of a stolen firearm.
On July 28, 2017, the West Virginia State Police received a call from an individual in Holden, Logan County, West Virginia that his gun was stolen.
The Trooper identified the individuals who were present when the gun was stolen and tracked down Nida, determining who purchased the stolen gun.
Nida admitted being in possession of the stolen firearm and knowing that the firearm was stolen.
As a result, Nida faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on May 30, 2019, in United States District Court.
United States District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin presided over the plea hearing, with Assistant United States Attorney Chris Arthur handling the prosecution.
The investigation was conducted by the West Virginia State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
The case against Nida serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting crimes and working with law enforcement to prevent further crimes from occurring.
