Juan Carlos Ramirez, Meth Trafficking, Alabama 2024

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Two illegal aliens, Juan Carlos Ramirez, 30, and Francisco Javier Hernandez, 35, both from Tijuana, Mexico, were arrested and charged with conspiring to distribute more than 100 pounds of methamphetamine in the Northern District of Oklahoma, announced the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma.

The defendants allegedly conspired with a Mexican cartel to smuggle and distribute large quantities of methamphetamine in the Northern District of Oklahoma. The investigation revealed that the defendants were involved in a sophisticated trafficking operation that spanned multiple states, including Alabama and Oklahoma.

According to court documents, Ramirez and Hernandez were arrested on February 14, 2024 in Birmingham, Alabama, after a lengthy investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics. The defendants were charged with one count of conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute more than 100 pounds of methamphetamine.

Both defendants made initial appearances in federal court in the Northern District of Oklahoma, where they were ordered detained pending trial. If convicted, the defendants face a mandatory minimum of 10 years to life in prison, a fine of up to $10 million, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years.

The investigation was led by the DEA, with assistance from the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma, and other federal and state agencies. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James E. Tarble and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Cynthia A. M. Malespín.
