Juan Jose Medrano-Escobedo, Illegal Re-entry, Texas 2026

San Antonio, Texas – Juan Jose Medrano-Escobedo, a Mexican national, has been charged with illegal re-entry in Texas. According to a recent press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas, Medrano-Escobedo was arrested in El Paso after allegedly entering the U.S. illegally through the Texas National Defense Area (Tx-NDA) less than half a mile west of the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry.

Medrano-Escobedo has a lengthy criminal record, including three felony convictions. He has been previously removed from the U.S. to Mexico twice, most recently on July 30, 2024. In addition to the charges related to violating defense property security regulation and illegal re-entry, Medrano-Escobedo also faces two counts of violating defense property security regulation.

Medrano-Escobedo is not the only individual charged with immigration-related crimes in the Western District of Texas. Two U.S. citizens, Jared Isai Ramirez and Jesus Alberto Soriano, have also been charged with conspiracy to transport illegal aliens in El Paso. The two men were arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents in Fabens after allegedly attempting to flee from USBP. A criminal complaint alleges that Ramirez lost control of his vehicle and collided into a rock wall, while Soriano eventually stopped the vehicle he was driving.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the cases were referred or supported by federal law enforcement partners, including Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE ERO), U.S. Border Patrol, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with additional assistance from state and local law enforcement partners.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas comprises 68 counties located in the central and western areas of Texas, encompasses nearly 93,000 square miles and an estimated population of 7.6 million people. The district includes three of the five largest cities in Texas—San Antonio, Austin, and El Paso—and shares 660 miles of common border with the Republic of Mexico.

In addition to Medrano-Escobedo, several other individuals have been charged with immigration-related crimes in the Western District of Texas. These include Elisandro Enriquez-Sanchez, a Mexican national who was encountered at the Bastrop County Jail and charged with illegal re-entry in Austin; Angel Daniel Vasquez, a Honduran national who was arrested and charged with illegal re-entry in Presidio County; and Rosendo Dominguez-Morales, a Mexican national who was arrested with Medrano-Escobedo in El Paso and charged with violating defense property security regulation and illegal re-entry.

The cases are part of an ongoing effort by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas to enforce immigration laws and protect national security.
