Juan Reyes Sentenced to 12+ Years for Fentanyl Trafficking
Connecticut, April 2, 2024
Juan Reyes, a 28-year-old man last residing in West Hartford, was sentenced to 151 months of imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release, for trafficking fentanyl in a federal court in Hartford. This conviction marks the culmination of a lengthy investigation by the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force and the Norwich Police Department.
The investigation, which began in January 2017 and continued until July 2018, revealed that Reyes worked with Michael Nieves to supply heroin and fentanyl to other distributors. These distributors, in turn, sold the drugs to customers in the Norwich and New London areas.
One particularly tragic case led to Reyes’ downfall. On July 5, 2017, a 34-year-old male overdosed in Norwich. He was transported to the hospital, where he died from acute fentanyl intoxication. The investigation revealed that Christopher Dubicki, a Norwich resident, sold the fentanyl to the victim after purchasing it from Reyes and Nieves.
The investigation connected six other overdoses, three fatal and three non-fatal, to drugs supplied by Reyes and Nieves. Reyes has been in federal custody since his arrest on June 29, 2018. He pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl on June 9, 2021.
Nieves, 30, of Hartford, also pleaded guilty to the same charge and is scheduled to be sentenced on October 28. He is currently detained. Dubicki, who pleaded guilty to fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine distribution charges, is also detained and awaiting sentencing on November 16.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patricia Stolfi Collins. The investigation has been conducted by the FBI’s Safe Streets Task Force and the Norwich Police Department.
