A Jupiter trust and estate attorney has been sentenced to $923,695 in restitution for filing false personal income tax returns with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Kathleen Kozinski, who previously pleaded guilty to two counts of filing a false return, will also serve eight months’ incarceration followed by a year of supervised release.
According to court documents, Kozinski, an attorney at Kathleen G. Kozinski, PA, failed to report all her income for the tax years 2007-2012. She willfully omitted gross receipts from her law practice on her corporate tax returns and claimed false deductions, including a ‘mortgage write-off’ loss and a ‘Schedule F Farm Loss,’ despite not operating a farming business.
United States Attorney Wifredo A. Ferrer praised the IRS-CI for their investigative efforts in this case. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aurora Fagan.
Kozinski’s attorney, who was not identified, has yet to comment on the sentence or her client’s legal strategy moving forward. The case serves as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who commit tax fraud.
