A former Allegheny County resident has been brought to justice for distributing child exploitation images, a heinous crime that affects innocent lives.
Kaitlin Plascjak, 30, of Imperial, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty on May 5, 2016, to distributing images containing material depicting the sexual exploitation of minors.
United States Attorney Scott W. Brady announced the guilty plea, which was accepted by Chief United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, and the Allegheny County Police.
Assistant United States Attorney Jessica Lieber Smolar is leading the prosecution of this case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Plascjak faces a maximum total sentence of 20 years in prison, a fine of $250,000.00, or both. Sentencing is scheduled for August 31, 2018, at 11 a.m.
This is a stark reminder of the need for continued vigilance and cooperation in the fight against child exploitation. The public is urged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately.
