Kaleel Malcolm Nagbe, a 21-year-old Baltimore man, has been sentenced to five years in prison for a firearms offense connected to a drug trafficking crime, according to a recent court ruling in the Eastern District of Virginia.
On December 7, 2024, a Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA) officer initiated a traffic stop after observing Nagbe holding a cellphone while driving on the Pentagon Reservation. The officer detected the odor of marijuana and asked Nagbe to exit the vehicle.
Upon being informed of a probable-cause search, Nagbe attempted to drive away, but PFPA officers prevented him from doing so, securing him after a brief struggle. A search of the vehicle yielded approximately 13 pounds of marijuana in the trunk and multiple clear baggies with images of characters from the cartoon ‘Codename: Kids Next Door’ in the passenger compartment.
The baggies bore a QR code that linked to an Instagram account advertising marijuana for sale, using the same cartoon packaging. A loaded firearm was found in Nagbe’s underwear, equipped with a machinegun conversion device, making it capable of firing automatically.
Nagbe was previously convicted in the Montgomery County, Maryland, Circuit Court of possession of a regulated firearm by a person under 21 years of age in January 2023. He was sentenced to five years in prison, with all but 367 days suspended, and was on probation at the time of the current offense.
In a statement following the sentencing, U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert, ATF Special Agent Anthony A. Spotswood, and PFPA Director Chris Bargery emphasized the importance of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John C. Blanchard, who worked to bring justice to the victims of Nagbe’s crimes. The sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in drug trafficking and firearms offenses.
